If you mean the wooden things on the table, that was frustrating, yes. I had to start over he game in another tab just to see the original position. Make sure you

only hit each wooden piece once

I guess I just lucked out on my first try there. I hit them all once, l to r, with the hammer and got the key

No... I mean, I don't understand how the note helps because it has words where you are probably supposed to pick out letters. I just didn't understand how that was meant to happen. I gave you the solution instead

I enjoyed beating them a bit too much the first time so I started over once again and finally got them good...then got lost somewhere in the basement. I'm going to start it all over again later.
By the way, how should I work out the code for that funny looking box in the basement?
