I think this is exactly what I did:

put in 9,8,7 from top to bottom, then clicked the bottom-left 7, the 3 that is under the 9 that I put in, then top-right 9 and the box opened

if that still doesn't help I may be able to retrace
it may be difficult because the x and y co-ordinates are reversed. usually x is first- but not in this game

i already opened the blue box.
its the co-ords bit i dont get for the box in the drawer i cant work out.
i'm trying to get the code from the numbers on the sheet that tell you which squares on the blue box open the box in the drawer.

sorry brain- I misunderstood. For that box

I used the blank coordinate sheet to find which numbers to use, like you said. Just remember that the y co-ord is first, then the x. they did it backwards. if that isn't clear enough- here is the real cheat

There are at least four endings to this. The first one is obvious, but there are variations within the game that lead you to the rest.
If anyone needs help, I'm on-line for a wee while.

why not just give away (spoiler if you must) what the fireplace code is and what the chains are for. i never did work out how to get the 3rd chain either. or how to look under the lamp, someone mentioned a coin too? never found that.

Got 3 chains, a coin or handle from window found codes for boxes and fireplace. You can

take a half-burnt paper out of the fire with the hook -but what for?

and I heard a click after putting in the pass for the fireplace. Any hint, where it clicked??

i need help with the code on the floor box (the one that the lamp shines on). Okay, I got the cat pic off the wall, pushed red button, heard a click, and now there's something on the floor but i can't get to it.

You can

combine the two single chains with the nippers,forming sth. like a Z then. Next you can combine the Z with the chain hanging on the ceiling. Only if you hadn't pulled it down before.....
