am probably clutching at straws, but do you notice that when you open the note on the same page as the puzzle; the puzzle stays on top, and when you try and do anything to the puzzle (ie, repeatedly trying to bsh it with a tablet) it just goes behind it!?!?! Anything??

Looking at the clue, 9 should equal a heart so maybe once you get the puzzle right, the door still will not open. You need to inject the blank square to save the creator.
I'm not going to bother going through all the different possible solutions to find out though.
