A couple of hints:

1. the meta clue in 25 should be taken as a person in the context of solving the meta puzzle
2. two of the meta clues had direct involvement with the meta answer at different times

I solved the meta-puzzle! Took some more prodding by Crank, and a little bit of US history know-how.

Now I just gotta get the rest of the other words unlocked and I'll feel like a winner.

Nah, I'll keep that one to myself. It was right in front of me after your last hint, anyway.

All the links I have, once I got them, made sense. If anything, my forehead hurts from all the facepalms. Some weren't obvious, or the connection was so far out of the box I never would have gotten them on my own, but someone else did and I'm sure I made some that someone else wouldn't have thought of.
