The polybius square gives a list of co-ordinates as the ciphertext. Bifid takes those co-ordinates, interleaves them and uses the result to produce an alphabetic ciphersteam. Think of polybius as the starting step for bifid.

Well, you are right Jase, and I had not noticed it. But I don't know whether that changes the way we have to look for the answer. The point is, Cryptos told us we "have all the information we need", when relating to bifid and unmixed alphabet. But i'm totally confused. Don't know how to continue.

Yes Kuang, bifid is a different and more complex procedure, but I think Jase meant that the basic grid for bifid in an unmixed basis is the same polybius grid, and that's right

            • Jase, you are the same that posted in the Cryptos forum, right? can you PM Cryptos so he helps us? I tried to register this afternoon but didn't receive the confirmation e-mail, so I can only read the forum, neither posts nor PMs allowed for me

                  • Well, I don't see any other forum that's ahead of us, nordinho quit yesterday and Crypto's has nothing new either. I think the creator must be interested in us going through this one and trying to reach the new levels he/she prepared. Could just give us a clearer hint, or a nudge, even a bump on our heads would be appreciated

I appreciate appearing as the newest registered user, but I would appreciate more to receive the e-mail I need to authenticate, because the forum does not let me log in

                        • Yup, I had the same problem with registration - my account is there, but unauthorised.

So what do we have so far?

                          - We're assuming it's a bifid cipher, although that hasn't exactly been confirmed

                          - We think the grid is composed of a-z in order, but we're not sure which double letter square we should be using

                          - We still have the 'think around the box' hint - given that FMD's C hint made the general type of cipher clear, we may not have used the box hint yet. Could this be a hint about laying out either the alphabet or the ciphertext?

                          - We know that Bifid can be deciphered with a LOT of different options and it seems only one will give the right answer

                          - We've tried manually deciphering the text as well as a few automated processes, with no luck.

                          Hm.
