  • It can't be a four square because any letter pair encrypted in that cipher with an unmixed alphabet comes out as just a reversal of itself

    • i have tried normal alphabet even spiralled with bifid ... but als ... you know where i got

      • Howdy guys... I've been playing this since yesterday, aided by much of y'alls hints... am of course stuck on "Praise undeserved..." Been playing with it manually... I've tried unmixed spiraling around with a in 11, 55, etc... I've tried several keywords beforehand such as "box" and "satyr." No luck. I was using the wikipedia page before Cryptos suggested looking at it, but I can't see anything more than what all of you have been doing... grr... Anyway, great job so far... I'll hope for the best and let you know if the lightbulb goes off...

        • Actually, I've just had a thought. Trifid is a lot simpler option-wise probably because it's naturally tougher than bifid. If you think of it as a cube with the co-ordinates occupying three dimensions then 'think around the box' might be relevant

Cipherclerk handles this but didn't give me a good result - going to try a manual decipher..

doesn't have any significance though? as in... the creator of the cipher (hence, FMD's C(ipher))... something like that?

            • eww if this is superencryption/cascading encription, this may be virtually impossible to figure out. :/

                • Yes, I think we all started from wikipedia, at least that's what I did (don't know, centuries ago it seems?). But it is not fair, Wikipedia does not give many more variations than those we have already used. The bifid cipher is not all that difficult nor complex... this can't be that wicked. What are we missing? These are really desperate words, believe me. Can't somebody just blow up the webpage and find the next level?

Don't worry, we've been here for 3 days, and you just arrived. FMD stands for Felix Marie Delastelle

                        • Trifid seemed to be giving some promising results and then went pear-shaped

                            • Wow, you guys are having a lot of trouble with this one. Just to make things a bit easier for I'll now confirm that "unmixed alphabet" refers to the following:

                              A B C D E
                              F G H I K
                              L M N O P
                              Q R S T U
                              V W X Y Z
