I followed the 5-7-5 pattern and got the nine letters, but they don't anagram to anything.

Thanks. I left the others a few clues and they were able to figure it out too!
#16 looks hard.

OOOHH If if you turn the number in each date into a character (1= A) and anagram you get tobacco

From my notes I have the words:
tobacco, trench, and grower as clues. I bet you guys solve this in another hour.
