    Hey Freakshow! I see your avatar and "aspiring author" has returned. Nice! Like the image thing in your sig, too.

        Freakshow, there are at least one book that I recall having heard of that's translated to English and avoids the use of E in the entire book. Perhaps that would be a good inspiration for you for this game

                I'm back.
                This is the PM that Hollandgirl sent me:
                Originally posted by Hollandgirl

                202 + x2 = 102 + (10 + x)2

                So after that you gotta work out the (10 + x)2
                That means: (10 + x) x (10 + x) (x between the two () means 'multiplied by')
                So now you've got:

                202 + x2 = 102 + 100 + 20x + x2

                After that work out the squared numbers, so you've got:

                400 + x2 = 100 + 100 + 20x + x2

                After this get all the numbers in front of the '='

                x2 - x2 + 400 - 100 - 100 - 20x = 0

                Work this out, now you've got:

                200 - 20x = 0

                Get the 200 on the other side of the '='

                -20x = -200
                x = -200/-20
                x = -10

                I hope it's correct! I might have used a total wrong method...

                But...
                When I was solving the problem, I just saw a little detail...
                Right on the beggining we have a square root, though, all the numbers are 'squared' (lol), so, the square root and the squares eliminate themselves, isn't it?

                    Only when the equation under the square root only consists of multiplying or dividing numbers. As in this case they don't eliminate eachother because there are additions instead.

                    Further more, in order to remove the square roots on the left for instance, you'd have to multiply both sides with the square root of (20^2 + x^2). On the left that way you'd remove the square root, but on the right you'd just be multiplying with a new square root, so it wouldn't help, that's why I'm stuck

                    Freakshow I'm gonna PM you how to solve that one.

                        its not roots, its solving mutlistep equations, that problem involves recipricles. . . or something like that. . .

                                Oh, and I just checked the solution of the problem (x=10), so, I guess that the equation I created is correct...the only problem is solving it!
