I completely agree. They have more hope and spirit in that city. I really hope they don't get hit hard, and that the projected path changes. Let's just keep our fingers crossed. It would be nice if (since it WILL make landfall somewhere) it would make landfall in some very rural area. But that's very doubtful.

EDIT: Yeah, I saw that guy on CNN video. I'm so glad he's okay.

I was also happy to hear that the tornado wasn't that strong as expected, and that everyone was better prepared than last time

                Crying Wolf

Its doubtful people will be as cooperative to leave next time around. People who used the provided buses and people who were able to drive on their own both had difficulties - unsanitary shelters, long gas lines, traffic, etc.

Evacuating will never be convenient and convenience will keep people in their homes for the next one. It will be tricky to get people to leave.

                    Non-essential workers stay home Friday

The mayor of Houston just press conferenced asking employers to let non-essential employees stay home tomorrow for hurricane preparations. Essential workers includes pharmacy, medical, grocery and fuel.

Looks like Crimsonthread and myself are in the path of this thing. I have the tank topped off and ready to roll if it hits Category 4 tonight.

On the lighter side I have a fridge full of fresh fruit that needs to be eaten so I will be stuffing my gullet with pineapple, grapes and banana all day long. Hmmmm, or better yet maybe a big pitcher of Sangria! Woot!

I hope it doesn't reach Cat 4. I worry about you guys down there. I'm glad to know you're ready to evacuate should you need to. Please be careful.

(But DO enjoy that fruit. )

Thanks for the kind words Escape. In 24 hours we will know a lot more but right now is just time to prepare and hope for the best. Should hit just before sun-up Saturday morning.

School's been cancelled for me. But like RBS said a few days ago, it's like they've cried wolf too many times before--I'm not taking any extra precautions. I live far enough inland that the only problems I have to worry about are rain and wind... and possibly a tornado or two.

You're dealin' with a pro. You should be fine, just a lt of flashiness and financial tolls, rather than death tolls.

@Crimson and RBS...Just keep your eye on the weather channel, and keep a portable radio available, right? Please don't forget to post back here once the hurricane passes so we all know you're both okay.

@Jones....Yeah, I'd say you a lot about them. Thanks for your input.

@Funja....Ugh. That stinks! And I'm off to finish writing a paper - no time to go get gas now....
