headache. How do you know what is the shift for the cipher?

Simple: you have a set of letters and a big letter T at the end. It means that the plain text encrypred by shifting by the letter T. At first time when i decrypt the messgae i thought that i'm wrong 'cause it wasn't there were no english words, but then i figured out that it's portuguese.

i'm trying to figure it out i really am! but it's so confusing... the writing seems odd (on the paper) so I'm wondering maybe you take the first letter of each word and combine them somehow? but I could be WAAAAAY off! Sorry to dissapoint you mr. (or miss for that matter) prodigy!
