  • You guys are really going to have a laugh when, searching for the keyword, you find out what Unm. A. stands for... It has to do with how you manipulate the cipher...

Are you enjoying this level or is it too hard?

    • It's... enjoyable.. in a kind of having-your-face-rubbed-vigorously-with-a-cheesegrater kind of way

It is really hard, but I'm happy to see you are around. Please help us. I was looking for words starting with unm in webster dictionary, and there are tons, but some like unmixed, unmetamorphosed... were suggesting to me that it may be something like "unmixed alphabet". I tried that with the applet for bifid cipher, but didn't help. Am I close? Can you give us some other more specific clue?

Actually, it does seem to give th eright results, but offers more possiblities for the grid layout. I think it defaults to upwards rather than horizontally.

            • Cunn, you have nailed down Unm. A. Good for you. You should all now have all the information you need to solve the level.

OMG, I can't believe it, because it doesn't work. So "unmixed alphabet" must mean that the key is ABC, that way the grid for the bifid-cipher is:
                ABCDE
                FGHIK
                LMNOP
                QRSTU
                VWXYZ
But that does not give me any intelligible result. What am I missing?????????????????????????????

                • You need to find out how exactly the cipher works (note: there are several variations, only one of which will give you an intelligible answer). Try Wikipedia or something. No more hints for you!

maybe we still have to find out the key word and then the alphabet is unmixed as in:
say the key word is key the cipher would read:

                    KEYAB
                    CDFGH
                    IJLMN
                    OPQRS
                    TUVWX

I don't know if that makes sense or is anywhere near right but that is all my brain is telling me at the moment and I can't think of anything else!

                    • That's almost how the grid is made normally - you write the keyword (without duplicate letters) and then fill in the rest of the alphabet, making sure you don't have any letters twice. I and J take up the same space normally, but there are different versions that do different things there.

                      • ?I'm going back to pencil and paper ancient methods. I will start with the simplest grid, the one I typed before, and will tell you if I get anything. I still think there is no key, it is a not mixed alphabet typed in the grid.

                        • I've just done a standard manual decipher with an unmixed alphabet and got gibberish. I must be using the wrong version...
