The only thing downwards when you're sitting at a computer is the keyboard. Hm.

maybe it has something to do with the letters on the keyboard, the letters around the ones used for gatosdesilva.

first i thought it could be a reflection of the letters on the keyboard, for instance that a would be p, q would be m, but that didn't work.

And there you've hit the first issue with that - different parts of the world have different keyboard layouts. The only thing that doesn't change is the numeric keypad, and that's what I'm wondering about now

I have tried mirroring the letters on the keyboard so g is h, a is l, t is y etc but that just came up with a jumble of letters.

Use the alphabet code, a=1, b=2... then count the letters on the keyboard. American style keyboard, so "qwerty" etc"

There are now 63 characters - make sure you update the text you're working from. Just write the number equivalent of each letter down in a long line, split this line into two lines of equal length and place the second below the first, and then read each pair of numbers off (top and bottom), converting them to a new letter from the grid.
